Julie Carandang
Contributing Writer
At only 23 years old, Julie Carandang has suffered through a series of career horror stories that most people do not experience in their entire lives. Luckily, she managed to escape and is currently fighting hunger in NYC, although, ironically, she is suffering from lack of sustenance because of Wall Street’s terrible restaurant options. POISE Magazine has actually put this Ithaca College English BA in the 98th percentile of the population who actually use their degree after graduation. Julie has an affinity for brunching with the co-founders of POISE, tripods, and chocolate.

Anna Farina
Contributing Writer
Born on the great John Lennon’s birthday, Anna was raised and fed in Brooklyn, New York. From inception, she was always overtly fascinated with shoes. She used to momentarily filch sunbathers’ prettily strewn sandals on the Italian beaches when she was little; it didn’t matter whether they were 10 sizes to big — they were shoes, and she was in love.
Fordham came and went and her Journalism degree is in the process of collecting dust. She now spends her days doing PR for and managing a lovely boutique in Tribeca called macki, helping prep at a delectably delicious Northern Italian restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn called Al di La, all the while figuring out the next best way to make pasta. She hopes to enroll at French Culinary Institute in the next months, find a humble abode in south Brooklyn, and hope to continue freelancing for the ever-so-lovely POISE online magazine.

Amber Katz
Contributing Writer
Amber Katz is a Philadelphia native who has parlayed her expensive hobby of a major (French Literature) into a marketing career at a Big Four accounting firm. When she’s not organizing events focused on the progress of Sarbanes-Oxley, she indulges her love of all things beauty. She often finds herself promoting her favorite gels and creams to colleagues on crowded elevators at work — not necessarily the most welcome forum for this advice. Thus, she contributes beauty articles to POISE and has started a beauty blog. Amber enjoys MTV marathons, Sunday brunch, and correct grammar.

Her unreasonably good looks make it acceptable for her to get irrationally angry at zippers and confused by weather changes. Daria Wright
Contributing Writer
Daria was born and raised in New Jersey. From childhood it was clearly evident that she was determined to live life by her own terms. Maybe it’s because she’s a lefty. Perhaps that’s why she’s a lefty. After becoming a licensed cosmetologist, Daria became a beauty salon owner by age 21. Now with over 15 years of beauty industry experience, she is currently a New York City based freelance hairstylist. Daria regularly finds herself advising women on hair care, skincare, makeup, fashion or even health and well being. So it was really a natural progression to begin writing so she could share her valuable insights with others. Daria’s interview offering hair care advice for issues relating to pregnancy and African-American women has been recently published in the new book The Mocha Manual To a Fabulous Pregnancy by award winning journalist Kimberly Seals Allers. Also, more of Daria’s practical hair care tips can be found in the February 2006 issue of Sophisticate’s Black Hair Styles & Care Guide.
