Post Interview Thank You Notes
by Andrea King
Q: I am wondering if you have any tips regarding sending a thank you note after you have completed an interview with an organization. Is this a good idea or is it too much? If it is recommended, what is the best way to do this (via email, a typed or hand written note)? -Megan D.A: Thank you notes are very important and sometimes can make/break whether you are offered the position. These days, due to greater technology and faster paced work environments, it is best to deliver the note to the interviewer(s) soon after the interview is completed (either by leaving a note with the receptionist shortly after the interview or emailing it directly to the interviewer(s)). Your competitors will likely send thank you notes as well. Assuring your note increases the chance of returning for a second interview and/or being offered the position, add something that will both impress and allow them to better remember you, such as a related accomplishment you didn’t get a chance to share during the interview or special skills. See it as your last opportunity to make a solid impression. Best wishes!
